200 Pounds Beauty.

Sometimes I wonder how does one defines beauty. In this movie, Kang Hanna has an amazing vocal but because she was fat & ugly, she could only hide & sing in the background for someone who has the body & looks but has no talent. After an unsuccessul suicide attempt, Hanna underwent an intensive head-to-toe plastic surgery to be someone else so that she could live her life with some dignity, so that she would no longer be laughed at for her weight, so that she could stand a better chance to be with the man she loves. But in the end, she realised it was very painful to live a life of pretence. In her struggle to assume her new identity as Jenny, she deserted her best friend, her dad (who is senile) and ultimately herself. However, she managed to realise how silly she has been and admitted who she was to everyone who attended her concert. She was prepared to lose everything in her bid to recover her old self. Everyone was touched by her sincere confession and forgave her, chanting "It's okay".

When exactly is a woman beautiful? When she fits into a sexy dress? When she is herself? When she loves you with all her heart? Sadly, in reality, most men will not have eyes for someone huge despite the wonderful personality hidden underneath the mass.

I cried really hard at this part of the movie. At this point, I wish there was someone I could hug and cry my heart out.

Find Yourself.

This is a beautiful song from the animation film - Cars. The lyrics got my attention - I think they are written meaningfully.

"We go through life so sure of where we're heading, and then we wind up lost, and it's the best thing that could happen. Sometimes when you lose your way, it's really just as well. Because you find yourself; Yeah that's when you find yourself."

At 30, I have to admit I'm not sure if I had found myself. Sometimes I think I have but most times, I feel lost and unsure of my direction. Perhaps the fact that I'm alone now makes me feel more lost than ever.

Just the Way You Are.

Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous.

I just realised Lifehouse (whose song "Blind" is so nice) will be performing at St James' Powerhouse tonight. And tickets are all sold out!!! Eww.

Where is the love?

This is one of the most meaningful songs about one world and love. We only got one world - Why are we discriminating? Why are we killing? Why are we fighting?

If Tomorrow Never Comes

Recent famous deaths include veteran actor and philanthropist Paul Newman (I just saw "Cars" in which he voiced Doc Hudson) and veteran opposition and lawyer, Mr JB Jeyaretnam. Heath Ledger came to my mind too - he was only 28 when he left this world. The possibility of having no tomorrow can happen to anyone - for death does not discriminate.

I can't help but feel melancholic at this point, that life is really fragile and unpredictable. If I had a choice, would I want to know when my last day on earth would be? I guess I wouldn't want to. I'd rather live each day hoping for tomorrow than survive each day counting down to the day with no tomorrow. What about you? Do you want to know when tomorrow never comes?

There's a few Mariah Carey's songs I really like. One Sweet Day (released in 1995, with Boyz II Men) is one of them. It's a sad song though. Many times, we take the presence of the ones we love for granted.
