Auld Lang Syne
I was gifted a soundtrack I love on Fri. My favourite track is Auld Lang Syne. When it was played in the movie, I couldn't help shedding tears. Samantha and Smith, Charlotte and Harry welcomed the New Year in love. Miranda and Carrie survived it with broken hearts. It was snowing.
The song's melancholiness stirred some emotions. Time flies just too quickly. Children grow up too fast. Friends come and go. Love found, lost and kept in the heart. In a matter of months, 2009 will arrive. I'm scared. How will I welcome it?

The closure

Finally, a closure to my favourite series - SATC.
Sage and I caught the movie together @ Great world City 1335hrs yesterday. Overall, a happy ending though some tears shed in between. Now I know why they had the song - The Heart of the Matter.
It's really not easy to forgive in the matters of the heart. "I'm sorry" may be hard to say but I can tell you, "I forgive you" is even harder.
I think I like the soundtrack.
Sage bought a pair of shoes and me, two (and too), after the movie. Oops. Well, we're inspired. Haha.

The Heart of the Matter - India Arie
This is a fabulous track from Sex and the City Movie 2008! Beautiful lyrics, fantastic song!
I've been thinking about the word - Forgiveness.
One word but an emotion so deep, so overwhelming. An act, so difficult, so courageous.
Just this morning, I heard news about someone I know going through a divorce after realising that there was no other way out. Her husband had cheated not once, not twice but thrice on her. She forgave him once, forgave him twice but the third time, it was blatant she couldn't anymore. She delivered her second child alone, after failing to reach her husband on the phone.
If I were in her shoes, I will not allow myself to be hurt twice. Once was enough for me to sever all ties. I admit, I am not very forgiving, especially in the matters of the heart. Even if I still love him, there is no other way than to say goodbye.
[originally performed by Don Henley]I got the call today, I didn't wanna hear
But I knew that it would come
An old true friend of ours was talkin' on the phone
She said you found someone
And I thought of all the bad luck,
And all the struggles we went through
How I lost me and you lost you
What are these voices outside love's open door
Make us throw off our contentment
And beg for something more?
I've been learning to live without you now
But I miss you sometimes
The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I knew, I'm learning them again
I've been tryin' to get down to the Heart of the Matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it's about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don't love me anymore
These times are so uncertain
There's a yearning undefined
And people filled with rage
We all need a little tenderness
How can love survive in such a graceless age
And the trust and self-assurance that lead to happiness
They're the very things we kill, I guess
Pride and competition cannot fill these empty arms
And the work they put between us,
You know it doesn't keep us warm
I've been trying to live without you now
But I miss you, baby
The more I know, the less I understand
And all the things I thought I figured out, I have to learn again
I've been tryin' to get down to the Heart of the Matter
But my will gets weak
And my heart is so shattered
But I think it's about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don't love me anymore
All the people in your life who've come and gone
They let you down, you know they hurt your pride
Better put it all behind you; cause life goes on
You keep carrin' that anger, it'll eat you up inside
I wanna be happily everafter
And my heart is so shattered
But I know it's about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don't love me anymore
I've been tryin' to get down to the Heart of the Matter
Because the flesh will get weak
And the ashes will scatter
So I'm thinkin' about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if you don't love me anymore
Even if you don't love me anymore

Can you ever really forgive, if you can't forget?

Season 4: Episode 7: Time and Punishment
Carrie and Aidan are interrupted in bed by the voice of Big on Carrie's answering machine. Though Aidan says nothing, Carrie fears that he'll never be able to forgive her for her affair with Big. She wonders if you can ever really forgive if you can't forget. Carrie works hard to show Aidan that she's a great girlfriend, but he seems distant and angry.
"Think how much easier it would all be if there were some swift surgical procedure to whisk away all the ugly memories and mistakes and leave only the fun trips and special holidays. But until that day arrives, what to do? Rely on the same old needle point philosophy of forgive and forget? And even if a couple can manage the forgiveness, has any ever really conquer the forgetness? Can you ever really forgive, if you can't forget?" - Carrie
* * * * *
Is it possible? Hmm. My answer: It would be possible to genuinely forgive but it would be impossible to totally forget. What about you? Tell me.

I shouldn't have.
"Well, maybe it's time to be clear about who I am. I am someone who is looking for love. Real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can't-live-without-each-other love. And I don't think that love is here, in, in this expensive suite, in, in this lovely hotel, in Paris. It's not your fault. It's, it's my fault. I shouldn't have come here." - Carrie

Manhattan or Paris?

Carrie with Petrovsky
Watching Episode 92 of SATC set me thinking - what would I have done if I were Carrie? To be honest, I would be in a dilemma. It's really a hard decision.
____________________________
Lexi's death causes Carrie to pause and consider her own life. All of her friends have been moving on with their lives - Miranda has married and gone to Brooklyn, Charlotte has married and is now taking care of a litter of puppies, and Samantha is finally in a stable relationship. Carrie wonders if it's time to try some change in her life as well. Petrovsky, the famed Russian artist whom Carrie was dating asked if she would moved to Paris with him. This means she will have to sacrifice everything she has in Manhattan - her terrific job as a columnist, her three best friends who are also her family, her wonderful Madison Avenue home. Petrovsky made it clear that he was done with Manhattan and consider long-distance relationship unfeasible. After much hesitation, she decided to take the plunge and accept the offer.
At Lexi's funeral, Carrie drops this bombshell on her three best friends. Samantha and Charlotte are supportive, but Miranda is hesitant. The old friends take a walk, and Miranda admits that she doesn't like Petrovsky at all. Miranda felt that it was a great pity Carrie was giving up her life to live Petrovsky's life. Paris is full of uncertainties and Miranda worries for her beloved friend. Carrie is hurt by this, and walks away from Miranda, getting ready for her new start at life.
____________________________
While supportive friends are necessary, sometimes, you also need a friend like Miranda who would bluntly remind you the consequences of your decisions. Generally, a woman tends to give up all for the man she loves while men on the other hand, may not reciprocate the equivalent. Perhaps, women are romantically more vulnerable. Is this a good thing or bad?
Would you give up everything you have to take a chance in love? Or would you give up the man? What would you have done?
