The price of beauty.

I was reading Jul/Aug 08 issue of Singapore Pets Magazine this afternoon. The article - The Price of beauty, saddens me.

"Over 20,000 rabbits were used for animal testing in the UK in 2004. There are about thirsteen main types of testing performed in the cosmetics industry, which potentially involves the use of animals. These comprise tests for eye and skin irritancy, skin penetration, skin sensitisation, photo toxicity and photosensitisation, mutangenicity, acute and chronic toxicity, carcinogenicity, reproductive toxicity, teratogenicity and finished product safety evaluation."

I don't even want to write about the details of such tests because they are so hard and painful for me - it's extreme torture and cruelty. Animals are often victims simply because they are defenceless against human and technology. I try my best not to buy products involving animal testing because I think it is morally wrong. It is with the same value I do not consume veal, foie gras and meats derived from cruelty. I have abstained from beef long ago.

Personally, I like products from:
The Body Shop
L'Occitane
Earthbath for pets

I have decided that I shall update the list of cruelty-free products periodically in the sidebar of this blog. Please feel free to update me should you come across any great products which are cruelty-free by leaving a comment.

Please support such products whenever possible. Beauty should be guilt-free and cruelty-free.
