Was discussing with a gd friend regarding companies employing only degree holders this morning. This discussion was brought about after I surfed a particular high profile company's employment webpage the day before. An administrative assistant is expected to be a degree holder. Wow. What do they expect from an Administrative Manager and Director? And this company is in the creative business. The employment pre-requisites they want are not exactly very creative, I think.
What you've read and are about to read are my personal opinions and views. No offence intended. I love my degree holding friends.
First of all, I am not a degree holder but I have a decent diploma. I think I am reasonably bright and capable. I don't think a degree determines or warrants a person's success. And of cos, it does not define a person's talent.
I shared with this good friend, some talented people, due to their humble family background, cannot afford to go to the university.
Sadly, in the real world today, most big companies hire only degree holders. So most non-degree holders who have the brains ended up being entreprenuers (perhaps a good thing) simply because most companies do not recognise their non-paper background.
If I have the privilege of employing, you can be sure, paperless talents are most welcomed. :)
